Chromadex 95 — Release Notes
Thank you for installing Chromadex 95, the colour-management suite for people who still measure their monitors with a loupe and a steady hand. This file contains last-minute notes that did not make it into the printed manual, which shipped to the duplicator eleven days before we finished the software. That is normal. That is the industry.
Chromadex reads a scanned target, builds a 24-bit profile in roughly ninety seconds on a 486DX2/66, and writes it to any application that speaks our .CDX interchange format. Nothing about that sentence has changed since version 3.1. What has changed is everything underneath it.
What's new in 95
- Long file names. Profiles may now be called
Autumn Catalogue Press Run.cdxinstead ofAUTCAT01.CDX. Your archivist will weep with relief. - Background rendering. Batch jobs run in a worker thread. You can keep tinting while the queue drains, which was previously described in support calls as "impossible".
- Soft-proof preview for the eleven press conditions in the bundled library, plus any you measure yourself.
- Registry-based settings. CHROMA.INI is still read on first launch and then politely retired to CHROMA.OLD.
Known issues
- On systems with more than 32 MB of RAM, the histogram window occasionally reports a negative pixel count. It is cosmetic. The pixels are fine.
- Scanning targets over a parallel-port dongle chain of three or more devices may time out. Reduce the chain, or reduce your ambitions.
- The screen-saver hand-off is disabled while a batch is running. This is deliberate.

Re-measure now, or continue and accept a ΔE of roughly 3.4 across the neutral ramp?
