The bus leaves Málaga at ten to midnight and the driver never turns on the cabin lights. For six weeks in the spring I made that ride every Thursday with a Walkman and a bag of blank tapes, recording whatever the AM dial gave me between the tunnels.

What you are holding is the tidy version. Eleven pieces, real-time dubbed, sequenced so that Side A ends exactly as the road opens out past Ronda and Side B begins with the sound of a thermos being opened two rows back. The hiss is not a defect. The hiss is the recording.

Each card is hand-trimmed and the title strip is lettered one at a time, which is why no two are quite square. If yours came out crooked, that one is mine.
