Condition report

Surface sound throughout. Fine laminar cleavage along the lower right edge, arrested and stable since first survey. The iron pin shows active but contained corrosion; no staining has migrated into the slate matrix.

Tally incisions remain legible under raking light at 20°. No consolidant applied.

Condition report

Structurally compromised. Two of the four panes carry through-cracks; the rear pane is held only by its retaining lip and must not be handled without the support cradle. Ruby flash is losing adhesion at the upper margins.

Tinning largely lost from the crown, exposing iron with light overall corrosion. Bail sound. Display permitted only at ≤ 50 lux with vibration isolation.

Condition report

Sound but worn. Pronounced photobleaching across the upper third from prolonged unglazed display; the untouched verso preserves the original tone for reference. Nine of the 144 peg holes are enlarged beyond tolerance.

Six boxwood pegs survive in situ and are original; the remainder are absent. Replacements have not been made and should not be, per the 2009 interpretive decision.

Condition report

Excellent. Beam runs true within 4 mg at half load. Agate knife-edges unchipped under 20× magnification. Brass carries an even, undisturbed patina which is to be retained; no polishing under any circumstances.

Silk suspension cords are 1998 replacements and are documented as such in the treatment file. Original cords retained in the object folder.

Condition report

Stable but incomplete. Four links have been repaired with non-original wire and are recorded on the diagram in the object file. Overall length now measures 20.104 m, thirteen millimetres short of standard.

Light active corrosion at three points on the chain, currently held by desiccated storage at 35% RH. Elm drum shows old flight-hole damage, inactive.
