computed live and bend around
every cut-out you read through.
Drift Register — Issue 04 — Winter observations
Eighteen thousand strokes are drifting behind this sheet. Every panel you read is a hole punched through them — the weather keeps moving in the margins.
02 — Reading the field
A flow field is a lookup table of directions. Ask it where to go from any coordinate and it answers with an angle; follow that answer a few thousand times and you get a stroke. Ask a hundred thousand particles at once and you get something that behaves less like a graphic and more like a climate.
We render ours at quarter-opacity onto a persistent canvas, so each frame leaves a faint sediment behind. Nothing is erased on purpose — the field simply forgets at the same rate it draws, and the balance between those two speeds is the whole aesthetic.
The panels are not layered on top for legibility alone. Their rectangles are fed back into the simulation as repulsors, so strokes bank away from the words before they ever reach them. Type never fights the texture; the texture gets out of the way.
03 — Live parameters
Four numbers govern everything visible on this page. Move them and the field responds on the next frame — no reload, no reseed unless you ask for one.

05 — Hands on deck
Writes the noise functions and argues that every parameter should have a weather word for a name.
Keeps the AxiDraw calibrated and refuses any plot that takes longer than a working day.
Decides where the cut-outs land, which is the same as deciding what the field is allowed to say.
