Living light for interfaces

Backgrounds that breathe, warp, and follow.

Aurorae renders a soft mesh of drifting light behind your product — alive on its own, and gently pulled toward wherever the eye goes. Ambient, never noisy.

The idea

A background should feel like weather, not wallpaper — quietly moving, responding to presence, never asking for attention.

Most gradients are frozen JPEGs. Aurorae keeps light in motion: independent blobs drift on their own timelines, then bend toward the pointer with spring physics. The result reads as depth — the sense that something is alive just behind the glass.

The craft

Every pixel of light is deliberate.

A tiny engine with an obsessive eye for softness, timing, and restraint.

Cursor gravity

Each light carries a mass. Move the pointer and they lean toward it with eased spring motion — closer lights pull harder, far ones barely stir. Presence becomes parallax.

Six-light mesh

Screen-blended blobs stack into a single luminous field — no banding, no seams, no texture files.

Palettes as poems

Twenty-eight curated moods — Nocturne, Tidepool, Ember, Solstice — each a tuned relationship between hue, drift speed and blur. Swap one line, change the whole climate.

Reduced-motion aware

Respects the system preference and settles to a still, beautiful frame.

Featherweight

Four kilobytes, rAF-throttled, GPU-composited. It never fights your framerate.

Drop-in ready

One element, one script tag. Works with React, Svelte, or plain HTML.

Signal

Quietly running under thousands of screens.

The workflow

From blank canvas to living light in three moves.

Pick a climate

Start from a curated palette or roll your own from the color wheel. Preview updates as you scrub.

Tune the physics

Dial drift speed, blur softness and how strongly the field leans toward the cursor. Feel it, don't guess.
