The Tree
of Light

Ten vessels catch the descending fire; twenty-two paths carry it between them. Follow the current as it falls from the crown to the kingdom — and awaken each sphere by touch.

Keter

The Crown
Pillar of Equilibrium

The point of pure will before thought — the crown from which all emanation descends, nearest to the unknowable light.

Structure

Three pillars hold
the descending fire.

The tree is built as a balance of forces — an outward expansion checked by an inward restraint, reconciled down a central column of equilibrium. Every sphere belongs to one of the three.

Pillar of Mercy

Chesed, the open hand. The active, expansive, giving current — grace flowing outward without measure, always in danger of dissolving into excess.

Pillar of Severity

Gevurah, the raised sword. The receptive, limiting, judging current — the discipline that gives grace a shape and holds it to its purpose.

Pillar of Equilibrium

The middle way, where mercy and severity are married. The channel of consciousness that runs from Keter to Malkuth — heaven brought down to earth.

The Channels

Twenty-two paths,
twenty-two letters.

Between the spheres run twenty-two channels — one for each letter of the sacred alphabet, and each a doorway of the Major Arcana. Current does not leap; it travels these roads.

Descent

The light falls through
four worlds.

The same tree is drawn four times, one nested inside the next: Atziluth, Beriah, Yetzirah, Assiah — emanation, creation, formation, action. Forty sefirot in all, and the tenth of the fourth is the ground you are standing on.

Kingdom

As above, so below — the crown and the dust are one current, only slowed.
