A human-centered studio

We design for hope, not hype.

KINDRED is a design practice that starts with people and ends with something worth keeping. We build products, services and small brave ideas that leave the world a little softer than we found it.

The KINDRED manifesto

We believe optimism is a discipline.

That the best ideas begin with listening.

That warmth and rigor are not opposites.

That every user is a whole person.

And that good design should feel like being understood.

Four things we hold onto when the brief gets hard.

They are not slogans on a wall. They are the arguments we win with, and the ones we happily lose.

01

Empathy is research

We sit with the people we serve until their reality outranks our assumptions. Field notes beat opinions every time.

02

Prototype early, prototype kindly

We make the smallest honest thing and put it in real hands fast. Being wrong on Tuesday is cheaper than being wrong at launch. Every rough sketch is an invitation, never a verdict.

03

Optimism, backed by evidence

Hope is our default, but never our excuse. We pair belief in better with the discipline to prove it — measuring what changed for the humans on the other side.

04

Leave the ladder down

We build so the next person can climb. Open method, shared credit, no gatekeeping.

Listen

01

We show up curious. Interviews, shadowing, a lot of quiet notebooks — we learn the texture of a day before we touch a pixel.

Frame

02

We turn a fog of findings into one sharp, human question worth answering. A good frame is half the solution.

Make

03

We build in the open — paper, code, cardboard, whatever tells the truth soonest — and hand it over for real reactions.

Tend

04

We stay past launch. We watch, we mend, we hand off with care so the work keeps living without us in the room.

Voices from the work

The people we build with tend to stay warm about it.

They didn't sell us a redesign. They sat in our clinic for a week and handed back the version of us we'd been trying to describe.

Kind is not soft. This team argued with us, kindly, until the product actually respected the people using it.

TLTheo Lindqvist
Head of Product, Ferry

We came with a logo request. We left with a way of thinking about our members that reshaped the whole organisation.

Director, Open Libraries

Six months after launch they were still emailing to check the numbers held. Who does that? Kindred does that.
